Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to have previous mooting experience before I Join the society?
There is no need to have any previous mooting experience before you join the society. Beginners and experienced mooters are welcomed alike to the JnUMCS. We only want you to have the same enthusiasm for mooting that we have and are willing to work hard to improve yourself as well the society.

Can any student of Jagannath University join?
JnUMCS has a very welcoming environment. But as mooting requires a good understanding of legal knowledge, and its application in a court setting, we only accept regular students of the Faculty of Law of Jagannath University. So, if you are a regular student of either the Department of Law or the Department of Land Management and Law and have completed your first two semesters, with a CGPA 2.75 or higher than you can join the society.
My English presentation skills are poor. Can I still join the society?
Of course you can! As long as you fulfill the basic conditions of membership, you do not need to have a good English presentation skill. We will help you to get better with your oratory skills. But you do need to have a good grasp of English reading and writing skills, as those you will need from the very beginning to improve your mooting skills.
I don't want to be an Oralist. Can I only be a researcher?
Good research is the foundation of any moot team. We not only encourage those who have interest in legal research to join the society, but also actively pursue them to join our society. If you want to solely work as a researcher, please DO join. There are separate accolades for researchers. And we have a separate standing committee for research.
